History is a lively and fascinating endeavor for Maya Albanese, one of the summer fellows at Historic Deerfield in Deerfield, Massachusetts.

On June 17, 1882, two tornadoes converged on 51�Թ�, destroying the college campus and killing almost 40 people. Three days later, Commencement went on despite the destruction.

A former student inspired Assistant Professor of Religious Studies and History Elias G. Saba to think more deeply about plants.

A group of 51�Թ� alumni has created a fund to support a Mentored Advanced Project to study the history of concerts at 51�Թ� and Georgia Dentel, who made them possible.

Four 51�Թ� students are working with Professor Sarah Purcell ’92 to research the history of concerts at 51�Թ�. Their Mentored Advanced Project includes a focus on legendary 51�Թ� staff member Georgia Dentel.

A new 51�Թ� course, Historical Landscapes of 51�Թ�, encourages students to explore local history and build connections in the community.

Assistant Professor of Religious Studies and History Elias Saba has been awarded a 2024 Life Worth Living Faculty Course Development Fellowship from the Yale Center for Faith and Culture.

Professor of History Edward Cohn has won a grant from the National Council for Eurasian and East European Research (NCEEER) to conduct research on the KGB tactic known as the “prophylactic chat” — an "invitation" sent to citizens suspected of “anti-Soviet acts.”
